Nutella swirl brownies

Brownies are one of the easiest cakes to bake. My first attempt at baking was actually a brownie and it turned out delicious that my friends loved it and kept asking me to bake for them. Because it is almost impossible to go wrong with brownies, it was such a confidence booster that I thought – hey, I’m really talented at baking for an amateur. That was five years ago and since then, I’ve been the crazy girl baking away whenever she feels like it.

Today, I’ll be sharing with you this Nutella swirl brownie recipe. This was my second attempt at the recipe because the first attempt was not fudgy enough and needed more Nutella. Also due to the cold, my Nutella hardened up making it difficult to swirl into the brownie. So the second time round, I microwaved it which made things a lot easier. One good thing about this recipe is that it does not require the mixer, which means less washing up! Hurray! Also, it is so easy to make that you can easy whip up this delicious chocolatey brownie in less than 10 minutes.

Ingredients

  1. 150g plain flour
  2. 50g cocoa powder
  3. 100g brown sugar
  4. 120g caster sugar
  5. 150g unsalted butter
  6. 3 eggs
  7. 100g dark chocolate (I used Lindt 90% dark)
  8. 100g nutella
  9. 1/4 tsp salt

Directions

Preparation time: 10-15min
Baking time: 25-30min or when the skewer comes out clean

  1. Preheat the oven to 160 degrees
  2. Grease a 23x20cm rectangular cake pan or line it with parchment paper
  3. Using a microwave safe bowl, melt the butter and chocolate in 30 seconds burst, stirring it in between until smooth. Be careful not to over head the chocolate or else the mixture will separate
  4. Whisk in the brown sugar, caster sugar and salt until completely combined. Don’t worry if the mixture looks grainy
  5. Add in the eggs one at the time and whisk it until a smooth uniform mixture is formed
  6. Sieve the cocoa powder and plain flour into the mixture and fold it in gently until a thick batter is formed
  7. Pour the batter into the cake pan
  8. Add in dollops of Nutella and using a butter knife, gently swirled it into the batter
  9. Place it into the oven to bake for 25-30min or until the skewers comes out clean
  10. Leave the brownie to cool and sprinkle some sea salt before serving
